We visit remote Osprey Reef which offers 1000 mtr drop-offs, shark dive and pelagic action, the coral gardens of the Ribbon Reefs and the World Famous Cod Hole. In Oct and Nov we visit the far northern reefs including the magnificent Raine Island for turtle and Tiger shark action.

Adventure DivingUndersea Explorer is a liveaboard scuba diving operation, which combines adventure diving with authentic marine research and education.

Your diving experience is our priority. Diver's abilities are respected and include no time-limit dives and exhilarating drift dives. We do not generally dive as a "group", and this increases the chance of seeing marine animals. Our crew are there to assist those with less experience, and the adventure divers are not held back.

Research & Interpretation: We undertake research projects which contribute to our knowledge and conservation of marine ecosystems, as well as creating new experiences for divers.
Our research projects explore many areas of interest including minke whales, sharks, octopus, nautilus, fluorescent corals, water quality and coral spawning. We employ a scientist as a crew member and our research activities fit around the diving program, adding a stimulating atmosphere of discovery to all expeditions

Reef Teach

REEFTEACH TIMES

Welcome to the third edition of Reef Teach Times. We hope you will find the information contained in this newsletter useful as well as provide you with an insight into what is happening on the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) at this time of year. As the reef changes throughout the year and interesting events take place, we will endeavor to keep you up to date.

WHALE SEASON SET TO GO!!!

The Winter Months in far north QLD is a very exciting time to be visiting one of the seven natural wonders of the world, “The Great Barrier Reef”. Not only is it Nursery time among our local waters, the Whale Season is truly here!!! Dwarf Minke whales visit the reef every June and July. They are a baleen whale, which means they strain huge quantities of water into their mouth through their comb-like plates called “baleen” in order to capture their food, tiny plankton and krill. The Minkes sighted on the GBR are some of the most inquisitive whales in the world and are known to regularly approach boats and swimmers. The Humpback whales are the other jaw dropping sight of the season. Every year from May to September Humpback whales travel up the east coast of Australia on their annual migration from Antarctica to their calving grounds around the Great Barrier Reef. Humpbacks are the fifth largest animals in the world and put on impressive displays when they surface the ocean, a behaviour which is known as “breaching”. It is a perfect time of the year for locals and tourists to experience the spectacular sights of these gentle giants.

REEFTEACH GETS FACE-LIFT!!!

At Reef Teach there is so much more to learn about besides the whale season. We can teach your clients where to find Nemo, how to identify the major fish and coral families, how to see fish and coral changing colour, how to interact with animals such as cleaning wrasse, sea turtles, whales and even venomous sea creatures in an environmentally friendly & safe manner. As the only Great Barrier Reef Educational Centre in far North QLD we want your clients to have the greatest GBR experience possible and we can assure you that it is our pleasure to educate and inform them of this amazing journey they are about to take!!! In the last year Reef Teach has undergone a major face-lift and is now full of amazing new marine specimens, reef guides, books and beautiful GBR images, which can all be found in our wonderful new location, 85 Lake street, Mainstreet Arcade (2nd floor). In the next couple of months Reef Teach will also be presenting an entire new show with live local GBR video-footage and we invite all tour agents to come and visit Reef Teach free of charge and see for your elf how we enthral, amaze and captivate our guests. You will leave this show inspired and raving about all the funny stories and the weird and fascinating way the GBR works!!! For the last ten years Reef Teach admission has remained untouched at the incredibly cheap price of $13.00 per adult and $7.00 per child. However, due to increased costs Reef Teach admission will have to increase slightly. As of July 1st 2008 our admission fee will be rising to $15.00 per adult and $8.00 per child (14 years and under). We believe that Reef Teach is still the best $15.00 spent in Cairns and commissions remain at 20% for all tour booking agencies!!! Evening Reef Teach shows commence at 6:30-8:30 pm Monday to Saturdays and private shows can be arranged for group bookings.

For all bookings/enquiries please

Until the next issue, take only pictures and leave only bubbles.
